Necrophilia is the act of having sexual intercourse (or attraction) with a corpse. Certainly, online daters don’t plan to come upon necrophiliacs while seeking love on websites such as Plenty of Fish. Sadly, this is exactly what happened to Katie Locke, 23, when she stumbled upon the dating profile of Carl Langdell. According to reports, Langdell was recently sentenced to a minimum of 26 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing Locke on their first official date after meeting on Plenty of Fish.
This sick man got Locke drunk, killed her, took photos of her dead body, sexually assaulted her and dumped her body into a dumpster.
Langdell’s plot began with a lie. He contacted Locke on Plenty of Fish and told her he was a lawyer. He even set up a fake LinkedIn account to support the false identity.
This was likely attractive to Locke, a graduate of Southampton University who taught history and politics at a school in Hackney, East London.
The two communicated online for two weeks before agreeing to meet on December 23. Things must have gone swimmingly, because during the date, Locke texted her friends saying things were going well. The two drank heavily and agreed to check into Theobolds Park Hotel in Hertfordshire at 3:30 a.m. The last anyone heard from Locke was when she called reception at the hotel to request two toothbrushes just 30 minutes after checking in.
Sometime after that, Langdell must’ve attacked Locke, who had no idea she was in a hotel room with an unstable fantasist. Reportedly, for two years before the killing, he’d suffered from mental illness and spent time in psychiatric hospitals.
During the trial, Langdell shared the dark narrative of the final moments of the encounter. He told the court that he throttled her and raped her dead body. He took pictures of her dead body with his cell phone. He used a laundry trolley to dump the body on the grounds of a hotel.
The next day, he ran into a woman he’d taken to the hotel after meeting her on Tinder. He told her he’d killed someone, but didn’t give any other details.
He then confessed to his mother, calling himself a “monster.” He was arreseted and revealed the location of Locke’s body, which was wrapped in a duvet 10 yards from a dumpster.
Reportedly, he told the officers, “She didn’t even fight. I expected her to hit out or something.”
During sentencing, the judge told Langdell, “I am firmly of the view that you pose a very great danger to women and young girls with whom you come into contact in the future and I note that you have described yourself to others as a monster and a psychopath because of what you did to Katie Locke.”
