When it rains it pours.
In case you missed it, this week, Keshia Knight Pulliam was blindsided by her husband, former NFL star Ed Hartwell, when he filed for divorce. Did we mention Pulliam recently announced she’s expecting? Adding insult to injury, reports indicate Hartwell is demanding a paternity test claiming “The Cosby Show” alum may be carrying a child by another man.
Then, on Wednesday night, July 27, Pulliam sat down with “Entertainment Tonight,” for a very telling chat, where she alleged Hartwell is the true offender. “That’s not who I am,” she added. “That’s not an issue. There’s no problem. I’ve never been unfaithful to my husband. This is his daughter.”
In fact, Pulliam claimed she almost left Hartwell over the alleged infidelity. “When earlier in my marriage I was faced with this, I was ready to leave,” she said. “I had divorce papers ready. I presented them to him. He begged … he said, ‘Please, I want my family,’ he said all the right things. Once I was pregnant I decided to give him another chance.”
Now, Hartwell has clapped back, revealing the “real” reason he’s decided to part ways with his wife of six months. Speaking to the media for the first time since filing divorce papers on Monday, the 38-year-old stated that their union was torn apart by jealousy, disagreements about starting a family and suspicions about infidelity.
“She wanted a baby really fast, and what I was trying to explain to her was that — from my beliefs, from seeing other successful people — that when you first get married, especially since we didn’t have a long courtship, that we should actually focus on each other and not just have a baby. That’s something she really did want to do,” Hartwell told Page Six.
The former linebacker added that in February he “had a sit-down” with his better half, where he expressed his concerns. “I said, ‘I think we probably messed up. I think we moved too fast,’” said Hartwell, ‘our lives and wants are headed [in] two different directions.’ ”
During the tell-all, Hartwell confessed that he still “cared” for his ex, whom he had dated for four years. Feelings he revealed he came to grips with after she “lost a baby.” According to Hartwell, Pulliam was so upset about Hartwell’s admission she virtually disappeared from his life. “[Knight Pulliam] wasn’t mad that I still cared about her,” said Hartwell, who played for the Baltimore Ravens. “All she was a mad about was, ‘You don’t want to have a baby, but you’re mad about her baby. You can’t talk to her.’ And there was a big fall-out.”
Hartwell added that his wife fled to visit a spiritualist and “started going out with friends all the time and not telling me when she was coming home or sometimes not coming home at all.”
