You can measure the success of a game by a couple of factors. It made you laugh and you had a good time. The real live adventure game that is all the rage, Escape the Room, is that and more. Once the clock starts ticking you appreciate and value your friends, family, co-workers or even strangers on deck who can process and solve the clues with you to literally escape the room.

This writer and her friends visited Escape the Room Atlanta and to say we had fun is an understatement. We thought we’d beat the 60 minute clock and win our freedom in record time. We had the audacity to tell the clue master that our escape would be a cinch. We came to slay.

It was quite funny how as soon as the magnetic door closed behind our clue master, what we quickly learned is a pseudonym for warden, and he left the room, we were helpless, but not hopeless. Where do we begin? What started as a birthday outing for one of the members of our movie club and clique turned into an hour of horror for the minute-ago confident adults charged with breaking out of what posed as a chicly-appointed apartment in a corner of the 70,000 square feet of building space located at 200 Peachtree St. in Atlanta. Yikes!

Just the thought that we could lose this challenge proved to be a little daunting. But we remained fearless. The phrase “two heads are better than one” has never been truer. While I can’t divulge all the secrets here, I can tell you that our team of six got in formation, escaped the room before the clock ran out, and yelled like Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders when they beat the undefeated Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers last season.
