Caitlyn Jenner made history last year when she came out as a transgender woman and then landed her own reality TV series, “I Am Cait,” on E! The series was groundbreaking, as it showcased life after transition for the then-65-year-old former Olympian. Millions of fans tuned in to see Jenner adjust to life as a woman. However, in the wake of months of struggling ratings, E! announced yesterday that they will not renew it for a third season.

In a statement, E! revealed that they were proud of the impact “I Am Cait” had on American TV viewers and that both Jenner and the network made the mutual decision to call it quits on the show.

“We are incredibly proud of the two seasons of ‘I Am Cait,’ a groundbreaking docu-series that sparked an important and unprecedented global conversation about transgender people, their struggles and triumphs. Caitlyn and E! have mutually decided not to move forward with another season at this time. She will always remain a part of the E! family, and we look forward to continue following her journey as she appears on ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians,’” the statement read.

The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise to many fans, considering that there had been rumors that the show would be canceled since last year. When the series first debuted last summer, it opened up with 2.7 million viewers, making it the highest-rated debut in the past four years for the network.

However, ratings for the series began to progressively plummet throughout season 1 of the series and by season 2, the ratings had dropped to an all-time low of just 480K viewers.

Despite the cancellation, Jenner tweeted that she was happy with her time during the show and that she was grateful for gaining a new trans family through the show.

“After 2 amazing seasons of @IAmCait, it’s time for the next adventure. Thank you E! & thank you to the best girlfriends I could ask for!” Jenner wrote.
