The tragic death of Alfred Olango by El Cajon police might have been avoided if one cop was fired for his previous antics. Local media outlet 10 News is reporting that one of the officers involved is Richard Gonsalves, who has been sued by a fellow officer. Gonsalves is reportedly well known within the department for sending pictures of his genitals to female officers. It got so bad that Officer Tina Greer sued the El Cajon Police Department for sexual harassment in 2015 and received a settlement. According to Greer, Gonsalves sent a picture of his penis to her cell phone. She also claimed he sent text messages asking Greer and her wife for a threesome. According to the lawsuit, one of the texts read, “I’m drunk and I want u! Both of u!” Gonsalves was demoted from sergeant to officer for his actions by the El Cajon Police Department.

However, this did not stop Gonsalves from continuing his behavior and Greer filed another lawsuit last month. In the second lawsuit, Greer claims “emotional and mental distress on the job while members of the department have retaliated against her. That retaliation includes comments made by male officers, spit on her locker and being forced to work in the same place as Gonsalves.”

Greer’s attorney, Dan Gilleon stated to local media “He should have been fired… I think he should have been prosecuted. There’s no employer out there in their right mind that wouldn’t fire someone that does that.”

The name of the other officer involved in the shooting has not been released yet by the El Cajon Police Department. However, local media outlet 10 News has stated that multiple sources say Gonsalves was one of the officers. Olango was killed by police after his sister called 911 stating he was having a medical crisis. Police maintain that Olango was acting erratically and pulled something from his pocket, which was later revealed as a vaping device.
