Toni Braxton postponed a Cleveland concert performance after experiencing some health complications. According to the singer’s Twitter account, she was hospitalized on Saturday, Oct. 15. “Toni Braxton was hospitalized this afternoon in Cleveland due to complications with her Lupus,” she tweeted. “Unfortunately, her show tonight in Cleveland will need to be postponed.” The “Un-Break My Heart” artist has been trekking across the country with her “The Hits” tour.
The statement continued, “Lupus needs to be constantly monitored and this minor setback should not affect the rest of her tour. Tickets for tonight’s show will be honored at the re-scheduled date that will be announced shortly.” The cancellation comes shortly after Braxton, 49, performed in Kansas City, where her rumored boo, Birdman, made a special appearance.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Braxton has experienced a health scare. Earlier this month, a rep for the singer revealed the mother of two recently spent time in a Los Angeles hospital while being treated for lupus. Fortunately for fans (and Braxton of course), she quickly recovered, allowing her to begin rehearsing for her upcoming tour just weeks later.
“I am so excited about going back on the road and seeing all of my wonderful fans and friends,” Braxton said in a statement to E! News at the time. “Everyone’s life is complicated and this is just a condition that I live with.”
As previously reported, in 2010, Braxton revealed she suffered from the chronic autoimmune disease, in which the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks healthy tissue. Though managing the disease itself is a challenge, Braxton once admitted that taking the stage when she’s not on top of her game, is one of her most difficult tasks. “That’s the toughest part, when I have to perform,” she explained to Huffington Post back in 2015. “So often, when it’s like that, it’s a lot of, ‘You sing!’ to the audience, you know. They kind of help me out a little bit without realizing it.”
She added, “Even if I can’t perform, I still figure it out. Sometimes I look back [at] that evening [and] I go, ‘How did I get through that?’ “
