The Flint, Michigan, water crisis continues to be an ongoing plague in the community. Thousands of children continue to be affected by the breached water system. Even though the mainstream news hasn’t recently shined a spotlight on them, the issue has not been resolved. However, there are many individual organizations that continue to raise funds for Flint, including The Links Incorporated, a premier international women’s volunteer service organization committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Links Inc. will continue their initiative and deliver on their promise to keep the Flint water crisis at the nation’s forefront with their drive to raise funds to provide financial support for children who have been impacted by lead exposure. The Links, Inc. national president, Glenda Newell-Harris, M.D.; and the central area director, Glenda Masingale-Manson, will travel to Michigan to join the Links Inc. Michigan Chapters Unite for Flint Kids fundraising event.
The event will consist of a concert and dance that will benefit much-needed services required for critical public health, medical community-based and intervention programs that address and mitigate the short- and long-term impact on children affected by the water crisis.
During the event, Dr. Newell-Harris will present a check on behalf of the Links Foundation Inc. with funds donated by the national members of the Hurley Medical Center in Flint. The Michigan Chapters will also announce the fundraising donation from the Link Inc. MI Chapters Unite for Kids event.
The event will take place at the MotorCity Sound Board concert and performance venue on Saturday, Oct. 22 starting at 7 p.m. Performances will feature recording artists The Dramatics with Willie Ford, saxophonist Randy Scott, R&B singer Millie Scott and Motown’s The Velvelettes. The fundraising event will also consist of dancing to the sounds of DJ Mike Two Mike. The presenting sponsors include Lear Corporation and Toyota Motor North America. Tickets are still available.
