Tonight, the 2016 American Music Awards — an entirely fan-voted awards show — goes down at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Hosted by Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah, the live telecast, jam-packed with performers including Maroon 5, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars and John Legend, promises to be entertaining.
Equally impressive, are the familiar faces that will be taking the stage as presenters, such as “Empire’s” Taraji P. Henson, Robert Downey Jr., Ciara, Heidi Klum, “Vampire Diaries” Nina Dobrev and many more. Of course, if that’s not enough to get you on the edge of your seat, we’ve rounded up everything (of importance) you need to know about tonight’s star-studded event.
This year’s nominees include some real heavy-hitters including Drake, who leads the pack with a record 13 nominations. Rihanna comes in at a close second with seven nominations, while, Adele and Justin Bieber are tied with five nominations each. Along with Bieber and Rihanna, the nominees for Artist of the Year, the night’s pre-eminent award, includes Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Carrie Underwood. Sting will also take the stage to accept The American Music Award of Merit during the show.
Kendrick Lamar, James Bay, Green Day, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots, The Chainsmokers and Halsey will also be storming the stage. Meanwhile, Justin Bieber will perform from Switzerland.
Girl power will be on full display as Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj will take the stage together while Lady Gaga and Fifth Harmony will perform their latest hits.
Tinashe and Jason Kennedy will be on deck, chatting up some of your favorite stars before the big show, during the annual red carpet extravaganza, “Live From the Red Carpet” with E! News.
So grab your popcorn and watch it all go down live at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
