SOLOH is a rapper from Arkansas who’s looking to put a stamp on the game. He released his fourth EP Feed the Streets last month and is now looking to gain further traction in his music.
Explain your journey and how you gravitated toward becoming a rapper.
My parents played a lot of early ’90’s music. They were surrounded by the best music of my lifetime, but as far as making music, I started knowing that I wanted to make music about 10 years ago. That’s when I got really serious with it. I was more so into sports during my earlier years. I played basketball and football, and ran track when I was in school but I felt like I was going in a different direction because I always had a way with words and people were always telling me to give it a try. I was also very outspoken growing up.
Name five people within music that influenced you while you were developing as an artist?
People like Michael Jackson, Tupac, Biggie, and as I got a little older, Bun B and UGK. I can keep naming for days because I like other people’s wordplay, diversity and how different people can be as far as their versatility goes.
You released three mixtapes last year — Conceded, I Am Me, Vol. 1 and 2, and a video for your single “Juggin.” How did you approach your new mixtape, Feed The Streets?
Rae Sremmurd was a major influence on this project. I really dig those cats and their wave, and what they got going on in music right now. Also with them, I just love that you can always rap a wave to their beats. You can appreciate the person behind the beat and you can appreciate the mindset of the person who made the beat. When you’re an artist, you tend to look at things much different. With the previous tapes that I did, those tapes were done more so with me being around my everyday scenery in Arkansas. When I started going on tour last year, I started moving around and seeing a lot of different places so by me doing that, and getting a little time off and trying to stay up to date on what’s going on out in the world and on the radio, that helped me to evolve.
You’re always performing at events, traveling and you have a social media presence. What are the top three things one must know before pursuing a rap career?
First, you have to find yourself. It takes some people a lifetime for them to find out who they really are because to do the job, you have to be comfortable in your own skin. Two, you have to be willing to go through s***** times. You can’t expect all the good, without all the bad. It just doesn’t work like that in this game. And finally, you have to have consistency. You have to be consistent in order to stay relevant.
