A 2-year-old was minding her own business when a 24-year-old allegedly attempted to sexually assault her. She was playing on a swing at Kemp Playground in Kansas City, Missouri. An obviously mentally deficient William L. Bates Jr. grabbed the toddler from behind, pulled down her diaper and then lifted his shirts, dropped his pants and started grinding on the innocent child. The child’s mother ran up to Bates and gave him a beat down.

Bates ran away and the mother ran to a nearby shelter and called the police.

He was found asleep near the park and arrested. Officers found he was carrying marijuana and an unidentified white vial of fluid with a chemical odor, according to the report. He claims he doesn’t remember a thing. The child’s mother identified him from a police photo lineup.

He is charged with first-degree attempted sodomy and attempted statutory sodomy with a person less than 12 years old.

Bates’ bond is set at $150,000 cash only. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 20, 2017. He is being held at Jackson County Detention Center.
