Police are investigating the day care death of a one-year-old child in Muskegon, Michigan, and tragically the person responsible is allegedly an 8-year-old girl. Bryanna Reasonover had dropped off her son Korey Brown, 1, at the Keysha’s Keepers day care facility late Thursday evening. According to police, the alleged child suspect was dropped off around 2 a.m., early Friday morning. Adults were in the home but Muskegon Police Chief Jeffrey Lewis stated to media the children were unsupervised for several hours. During this time, Korey was crying and the unnamed 8-year-old girl decided to try to quiet the baby since no adult was around to intervene. Police stated the events of the crime were being relayed by a 5-year-old child who was also present.
When Reasonover arrived at the day care facility to pick up her son, she could not find him. A frantic search of the house ensued and Korey’s body was found in a bedroom hidden in a playpen. According to his mother, she noticed bruises and bite marks on his face. Police stated that a 911 call from the home was received around 6:15 a.m. and CPR was performed by responding paramedics on the 1-year-old child but were not successful. Chief Lewis stated to media, “I thought I saw everything. This one floors me. I can hardly get a grip on it.”
There were adults at the home day care center and Lewis stated, “I have all indications that they were in the house, they could have been on another floor, they could have been resting. I do not know what they were doing, but I do know they were not in the area or this would not have occurred.”
A grief-stricken Reasonover stated to media that her children had just started going there three weeks ago. Four of her children were at the day care from late Thursday evening to early Friday morning. The child suspect has been placed in a psychiatric hospital for a mental evaluation as the investigation continues.
An exact cause of death for Korey Brown is pending as police are awaiting autopsy results.
