Aisha Tyler has suffered a huge loss in divorce court.
As previously reported, her ex-husband Jeff Tietjens, a lawyer, filed for divorce in April 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. Per Tietjens, he and “The Talk” co-host had separated a year prior.
However, on Wednesday, May 17, a stipulated judgment was reached to end their 20-year marriage, multiple outlets report. According to court documents, Tyler, 46, has been ordered to pay Tietjens $31,250 per month for 48 months, totaling a whopping $1.5 million — an agreement the two previously negotiated and signed in December, E! News reports. She’s also been ordered to pay for his annual $500,000 life insurance policy until the end of 2020.
As for their property and assets, including a Hollywood Hills home they purchased in 2002 and sold last summer for more than $2 million — everything will be split down the middle.
Last year, following news of their separation, Tyler opened up about their split on “The Talk.” “I don’t think we failed. I think we did it exactly right,” she said, noting that they had called it quits in “the kindest way possible.”
Of course, there’s a certain level of difficulty that comes along with saying goodbye (at least for now) to your life partner. “He’s the person who has influenced me and cared for me the most,” she explained. “In fact, he cared for me even longer than my parents have cared for me and it’s very hard when you love someone very much to also start to realize that maybe you want different things for your life. That’s a very difficult realization to come to and you don’t want to accept it and you don’t want to believe it.
“He’s a wonderful person. He’s been my best friend for almost my entire life. I’ll always, always love him.”
The college sweethearts tied the knot on May 21, 1994, before separating in 2015. They do not have children together.
