Back in August, rapper Mystikal, real name Michael Lawrence, turned himself into police on charges that he raped a woman. The incident occurred in 2016 at a Shreveport, Louisiana hotel and casino. Also implicated in the sexual assault was Averweone Holman, 26, and a woman identified as Tenichia Wafford, 42, who tried to silence the alleged victim.
On Tuesday, a grand jury formally indicted Mystical on one count each of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping. The rapper now has a staggering bond of $3M. According to KSLA News, also indicted in the case were Holman (one count each of first-degree rape and second-degree kidnapping; bond set at $3M) and Wafford (one count of obstruction of justice; bond set at $500K).
Mystikal faced charges of sexual assault from a 2003 case in which he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and extortion. He was sentenced to jail and released in 2010 on five years probation and was required to register as a sex offender in Louisiana. He was quoted as stating about his sex offender status at the time, “I don’t do the pity party thing, I have to participate in sex offender groups and stuff like that; it don’t stop your life, man …I have the same fears that most parents have, I don’t have an offense against no young kids, or nothing like that, which don’t [sic] make my offense no better, but still, protect your kids, man, protect your kids, our kids are the most important thing we have.”
