A woman is being called Lion Mama after running almost two miles to stop her daughter from being gang-raped. The incident occurred in South Africa near the village of Zwartwater. The woman was told her daughter was being raped by the teenage cousin of one of the attackers. According to Daily Mail, the woman called her local police station but no one picked up the phone. She decided to take matters into her own hands.

The brave mother grabbed a kitchen knife and ran almost two miles through the countryside to rescue her daughter. She could hear her daughter’s anguished cries coming from a house and broke through the door ,surprising the rapists who were taking turns assaulting her daughter. Before the men could react, she unleashed fury, stabbing all three repeatedly until they collapsed. Police were summoned and the blood-soaked mother comforted her daughter. One rapist was declared dead at the scene and others were in critical condition, clinging to life after the assault.

Shockingly police, arrested the woman at the scene and she found herself charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder and jailed. Word soon spread throughout the country of the attack and the woman was bailed out by supporters. Soon a legal defense fund was set up for the Lion Mama, as people were outraged that she was being charged for her actions. This week, all charges were dropped against the woman after prosecutors realized there was no way a jury was going to convict her.

According to villagers, the rapists were known troublemakers and had raped other women, including the elderly, in the area. The woman’s name was not released because her daughter was a victim of a sexual assault. South Africa has one of the highest rates of rape in the world with an estimated 110 attacks reported each day.
