As the United States becomes more racially polarized a teacher in New Jersey has added her part to bigotry. The unidentified English teacher was upset when she heard students speaking Spanish. She told her class at Cliffside Park High School in Cliffside, New Jersey: “Men and women are fighting. They are not fighting for your right to speak Spanish. They are fighting for your right to speak American.”

It was a shocking statement from the English teacher because there is no language called American. A student responded back to her, “You’re being racist. I know how to speak English.” With that comment, Spanish-speaking students gathered their books and walked out of the class. The incident caused the principal to hold an assembly on diversity and to discuss the situation last Friday. The video has gone viral and was shared 20K times.
