How did you get started in business?
My perspectives as a life coach and international speaker emerged from my own pain of life circumstances including a difficult relationship, betrayal, divorce, and unexpected job loss. I found myself in the midst of significant life changes when my purpose was revealed. Coaching and speaking became the vehicles I use to fulfill my purpose to help others experiencing similar situations and to transform lives.
How do you handle stress in your business?
As a former healthcare executive, I saw the ill effects of long-term stress on the health of society, so I have made it a priority to maintain a low-stress level and incorporate self-care into my routine. My top keys to managing stress in my business:
- Don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s not worth the agony.
- Stay on top of important aspects of my business priorities with regular planning and strategizing.
- Seek help when needed. I can’t do it all.
- Take time to decompress daily; break the cycle that can cause stress.
- Refocus and relax using deep breathing exercises and meditation.
- When I find myself feeling overwhelmed, review my list, reprioritize and journal.
What is the biggest hurdle you’ve overcome since becoming a business owner?
The biggest hurdle I had to overcome early was my mindset by recognizing the value of the intellectual capital I bring to my practice. While my business was new, I was not new to business or coaching. I had over 30 years of corporate experience running a $29B national enterprise for eight years. I had been coaching and mentoring associates for over 20 years.
What is the biggest achievement you’ve accomplished with your business?
My biggest achievement has been changing lives for my clients. When I witness their transformation, I know my purpose is being fulfilled. I love to see them prospering, living their lives full of joy, a new sense of clarity and a continuous commitment to shedding the effects of emotional baggage that once held them back.
In your opinion, what is the key to success?
My top five keys to success are:
- Perseverance – stay steady, never give up, learn from failures
- Excellence – commit to show up and deliver excellence
- Consistency – must be consistently reliable and accountable
- Agility – move quickly, seize opportunities, take risks
- Integrity – never compromise your personal values
The best marketing tip you can give a prospective person who is looking to merge into your field?
Marketing is a critical element for business. My tip is to establish an online presence building credibility and trust as an expert in creating and delivering high-quality content incorporating the use of videos. According to the latest digital marketing report, visualization is more important than ever because videos stimulate a sensory connection and create a greater experience for your followers. Facebook recently reported that 1.65 billion active users watch 8 billion videos, each day.
What is a quote/mantra that motivates you?
I have several mantras I use daily that keep me motivated and igniting joy. One, in particular, is, “This is my moment. This is my time. I will let my light shine so that others may find their own way to sparkle.” It is a reminder of God’s grace and his purpose in my life. I believe each of us has a purpose and when we use it accordingly, we bless others.
