A student at Georgia State University has been hospitalized, and authorities have detained the alleged perpetrator.

The stabbing occurred early this morning at GSU student housing building Piedmont North, located at 175 Piedmont Ave. NE.

According to GSU Police Chief Joe Spillane, the university and Atlanta police initially responded to a call about a fight between the two students. When authorities arrived on the scene, one student was found with several stab wounds in the laundry room of building B.

The student has been taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. The other male student was found by police in the dorm lobby and was arrested.

“After interviewing witnesses, it was determined that the two males knew each other and had an ongoing dispute,” said Spillane. “The male who was stabbed was actively looking for the male who stabbed him.”

Spillane says that the detained student has been charged with aggravated assault. The hospitalized student will face a simple battery charge.

Neither student has been identified by police.
