The Atlanta Police Department announced that the body of Dr. Timothy Cunningham, a top researcher at the CDC, was pulled from the Chattahoochee River today. Cunningham disappeared from his suburban Atlanta home more than seven weeks ago, leaving behind his keys, wallet, cellphone and beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles.

After a massive push by his family, national media soon began reporting on Cunningham’s disappearance. Last month at a press conference held by the APD, spokesperson Mike O’Connor said that Cunningham’s disappearance had attracted unprecedented media attention for a missing person’s case. O’Conner seemed almost dumbfounded as he revealed details that were previously unknown to the public.
