Favorite Singer: “It’s hard to pick one, because I love Celia Cruz’s depth, Elvis Presley’s vibrato, Ray Charles’ texture, and Amy Winehouse’s melancholy flow; but my favorite singers out right now are H.E.R., Summer Walker, Daniel Caesar, Lana Del Rey, and Beyonce.”

Tell us who Natalie Orfilia is in five words.

“A Lady Singing in Red.”

Real talent is hard to come across in a time when everyone has the access and tools necessary to make music. What makes you stand out from the rest?

A lot of people are both attractive and talented, but everyone can’t put their heart on a record. I believe I stand out, because I’m genuine. I don’t talk much about my talents, because talent speaks for itself.

We know you as a vocalist, but are there any other talents you want to share with the world?

My “cut off” game is impeccable; I can pull through last minute, and I make a great spades partner. I’m good at both basketball and volleyball, as well as hair and makeup too.

Your new single, ‘Threesome,” is a play on words. In your own words, what is the underlying message in this song?

The underlying message to me is simply “boss up.” No one is looking out for you more than you. Sometimes it’s okay to be selfish, because loving yourself is a top priority. Love yourself even if it offends someone else.

Have you always been a red-head? If not, how did your new style come about?

I’ve been a red-head for years now. Back in high school, I wore a honey-blonde ombré when it was popular. Before I dyed my hair red, I always remembered seeing Chaka Khan on stage singing in her beautiful red hair, and loved how it was elegant but wild. Then seeing Lil’ Kim in her red monochromatic looks made me think to myself, “The industry could use a red head right now.” I’m laughing so hard, because I actually said this to myself at like 16 years old.

How important is it to create both an image and style for yourself as an artist?

I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s important to create an image, but it’s more important to define the image that is already there. To create something means you had to start from scratch. An artist is an artist before they meet a stylist, publicist, or anyone else who’s supposed to guide you behind the scenes. I believe an artist’s image and style are extremely important. The way you dress, the way you pose, and the way you perform are all connected.

What has been your hardest challenge so far in the music industry? How have you overcome it?

My hardest challenge thus far was finding my sound. For a long time, I couldn’t figure out what it was, but I knew what it wasn’t. But I can’t honestly say “I” overcame it on my own. Finding my sound was a long process that came with trial and error, alongside the help of my primary producer, Kid Class. He really took the time to work with me, and cultivate a sound that brought out the true elements of my personality.

You just dropped your music video to “Threesome.” Any other upcoming projects to look out for?

I have a lot in store for these next several months. I have new music and visuals that I can’t wait to put out! Keep up with my journey on all social platforms by following the username, at Natalie Orfilia. If you see red hair, you know it’s me.
