The former prison inmate and career criminal with the massive neck that went viral when his mug shot went public, has been arrested, yet again, on an assortment of new charges.
Florida resident Charles Dion McDowell is the man with the vast neckline who attained immediate national notoriety after the Escambia Sheriffs department posted his mug shot on their Facebook page. He was reportedly apprehended just days after getting out of jail when he led police on a high-speed chase in neighboring Alabama.
According to the Alabama-based newspaper Opelika-Auburn News, McDowell was the subject of a routine traffic stop for improper lane usage in metro Montgomery. Knowing that he was in possession of illegal substances, the newspaper reports, McDowell allegedly darted off and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase Tuesday night. Somehow, McDowell managed to get away — temporarily.
McDowell, however, remained in the area where he was seen early Wednesday morning and tried to once again escape police. This time, officers were able to neutralize the vehicle he was driving by employing spike strips and flattening the tires.
McDowell was booked on charges of attempting to elude police, possession of marijuana, reckless driving, driving with a revoked license and improper lane usage. Despite eluding the police and other charges, he was able to get bailed out of jail on a $5,400 bond.
When McDowell was in Escambia County, Florida, a few weeks ago, he was held on several charges that included possession of meth, cocaine and marijuana with the intent to distribute or sell — and eluding the police there as well. He posted $57,000 bond in that case.
