Only here to do my job, but hearing the words and seeing the victims’ faces and watching them cry was much more powerful than anything I could ever have imagined. As I watched the former best friend of one of R. Kelly’s current victims talking and breaking down in uncontrollable tears, I began to realize that all of these allegations are still as real today as they were in the ’90s.
“It’s been two years. She thinks she’s living the fabulous life,” was the comment offered by Summer Rose, the former BFF of one of Kelly‘s current alleged sex slaves when asked about the last time she spoke to her estranged friend.
“Isolation and control are two great indicators of abuse,” says Lisa Van Allen when asked about how to catch the warning signs early on to prevent abuse.
I know that I’ll always have a deeply different and visceral reaction whenever I hear Kelly’s name for the rest of my life.
