Law enforcement officials have announced the capture and arrest of a man wanted in Georgia in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl in August 2018. The U.S. Marshals Service tracked down Mattay Muhammad, who was hiding out at his sister’s house in Philadelphia. The Marshals discovered him hiding in a clothes dryer in the basement of the home.
In August 2018, the teen victim and her little brother were alone in their Riverdale, Georgia, home. Muhammad is accused of entering the house through an open living room window and terrorizing the children. He threatened to kill both children and raped the 13-year-old girl. While violating the child, he recorded the sexual acts on his cellphone. At one point, he made the girl say “Hi mom” to the camera. He later fled the scene and was the subject of a statewide search. Muhammad is expected to be extradited to Clayton County, Georgia, to face charges.
Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill previously listed Muhammad as No. 2 on his most wanted list and referred to the suspect as a coward. The Sheriff’s Department released a statement that reads in part:
“Mattay was taken into custody earlier today by the U.S. Marshals Service in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Muhammad was found hiding in a dryer like a coward in the basement of his sister’s residence. Special reservations at the “Hill-ton” are waiting for Mattay when Clayton County Sheriff’s deputies bring him back to face the wall at Georgia’s toughest para-military jail.”
