As a Black woman, what do you consider your superpower to be?

I have the unique ability to command a room with my presence. At 6 feet tall in heels, when I walk into a room, people notice.

What key skills or qualities makes you unique as an African American female leader? I’m a former collegiate athlete, which has given me a team mentality. That life experience allows me to relate better to most men, who often are the decision makers in the room.

What thoughtful or encouraging piece of advice would you give to your younger self?

Life is fleeting, and it’s gone before you know it. Slow down, pay attention and really experience the experience.

Why is it important for women of color to lead or work in decision-making capacities?

Black women have the unique experience of being a double minority and have become successful in navigating those waters. That experience allows us to lead with empathy and compassion.

If you could thank any Black woman historymaker for her contributions to society, who would it be and why?

Michelle Obama. She provides the world with such a wonderful example of how truly talented and multifaceted Black women really are; educated, articulate, engaged, loving and supportive, all while being fashionable. Fly on all fronts is what I call it.

Why is it important for experienced Black women to reach back and help younger women of color?

If we don’t, who will? We must take the time to sew into our young sisters and pave the way so that one day they will be prepared to step into our shoes and accomplish even greater achievements. Each one, teach one.

What are three success habits you implement into your daily routine to maintain your success, sanity and peace of mind?

I pray, laugh and spend time on my couch every day to keep my sanity.

As a successful woman in business, what is your greatest or proudest achievement?

I am blessed to have this experience over and over and over again, as I assist my community in achieving homeownership through my role at Invest Atlanta. It’s one of the most powerful experiences I’ve had personally, and I want to give that opportunity to as many people as I can.
