DALLAS, TEXAS — Emotions ran high following the sentencing of Amber Guyger. On Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, the former Dallas police officer was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the brutal killing of her neighbor Botham Jean.

Several individuals in the courtroom inside the Franklin Crowley Courts Building in Dallas, yelled “No justice, no peace,” after the sentence was announced.

Guyger was convicted a day earlier of murder in the fatal shooting of Botham Jean, 25, in September 2018.

Guyger initially claimed that she thought she walked into her apartment, which was one floor below Jean’s when she encountered Botham.

After the murder, Guyger told authorities that she was tired when she walked into Jean’s apartment.
