As the only person in her family who did not finish college, the actress decided to enroll in the Academy of Art University in San Francisco during a break from the industry.
Although she says her graduation date is years away, she is using her newfound knowledge to enhance her career now. “I was using language that I hadn’t used before, and I felt like these adults in these positions respected me a little bit more,” she said.
After her time pursuing other opportunities in the entertainment industry, including a stint as one of the co-hosts on “The View,” Raven-Symoné returned to Disney in July 2017 with her new sitcom, “Raven’s Home.”
“I wanted to create content that would be enjoyable for families that I could thrive from, and coming back to Disney has opened so many doors outside of acting that I’m happy that I did come back because I’m growing who I am as a human and not just as a brand,” she said.
Returning to the Disney Channel also has enabled Raven-Symoné to travel the world with her brother and provided her with the opportunity to star in Friday’s night’s “Just Roll With It: You Decide LIVE!” special.
Based on her acting experiences, she has this advice for anyone interested in entering the industry: “Get a good lawyer. Read all of your contracts and understand your worth. … Understand it and you’ll be fine.”
“Just Roll With It: You Decide LIVE!” airs Friday, Oct. 4, at 6 p.m. (PST) and 9 p.m. (EST).
