New Music Friday: Fantasia paints a new picture; Nola's young kings reconnect

We are back at it again with another New Music Friday, featuring a balanced list of albums and singles that caught our attention. Among them are undeniable efforts by one of North Carolina’s most celebrated songstresses, a necessary New Orleans reunion and introspective spit from one of D.C.’s finest.

Enjoy and let us know if we missed something!

Fantasia Sketchbook

Fantasia will always be known as a former “American Idol” winner, but she is so much more. The pride of High Point, North Carolina, continues to paint her portrait after a three-year hiatus with the highly anticipated Sketchbook. Her seventh studio album finds the award-winning songstress in traditional R&B mode, while testing waters normally reserved for trap artists, and then flirting with rock-soul over 12 spirited offerings.

Wale — Wow… That’s Crazy

It’s only been two years since Wale dropped Shine, and he is returning with some thunder. Sparked by single releases in past weeks (“On Chill” and “Love & Loyalty”), Wow… That’s Crazy boasts 15 tracks that includes heavy-hitters such as Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Durk, Jeremih, Bryson Tiller, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Ari Lennox, Boogie and more.

Curren$y, Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy — Plan of Attack

Curren$y, Trademark Da Skydiver and Young Roddy teased the possibility of a reunion in recent months and apparently enjoyed the Jet Life reunion so much that they did not invite anyone to join them. The 12-track mixtape is void of guest appearances unless we are counting producers. Among them are Monsta Beatz, Sledgren, Cookin’ Soul and B-Eazy The DJ.
