To capitalize on the hysteria and success of “Surviving R. Kelly,” Lifetime has decided to release a new season of the multiple-episode series.
Slated to premiere on Jan. 2, Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning is a six-hour series that will run for two hours a night for three consecutive nights, concluding on Saturday, Jan. 4.
The series will feature commentary from new accusers and interviews from music industry insiders including Damon Dash, Mathew Knowles, Jimmy Maynes from the entertainment industry, activist #MeToo founder, Tarana Burke, and other celebs such as W. Kamau Bell, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Angela Yee, and Gloria Allred.
The first R. Kelly docu-series which premiered at the top of 2019 and garnered 27 million viewers, was nominated for a Primetime Emmy and won a Critics’ Choice Award.
Following the series, the hashtag #MuteRKelly went viral, Kelly was dropped from his label, and he was charged with 10 felony counts of aggravated sexual assault involving four alleged victims.
Kelly is currently in jail as he awaits trial.
