Subsequent to approaching officers near the sight of the crime, Sanchez was escorted to the precinct where investigators attempted to get to the bottom of the short-lived case.
She’s alive! Karol Sanchez was just dropped at a park near where she was kidnapped last night, then the 16 yr old walked up street where police were posted. She was reunited w her family. No details on what happened, she appears to be ok, emotional reunion! @abc7ny #abc7ny pic.twitter.com/NusfkJlFV2

Shockingly, multiple media outlets, including The New York Times, USA Today, New York Daily News and others, are reporting that Sanchez admitted to making it all up because she didn’t want to leave the U.S.
According to published reports, her mother, who speaks Spanish, was planning to move back to their native Honduras. Sanchez also alleges that her mother is extremely overprotective, and for those reasons she staged a crime that earned her national attention.
As rolling out previously reported, Sanchez’s mother, 36, was left on the ground after attempting to fight the two men off.
The Amber Alert was sent out Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, at approximately 10:45 a.m., to alert New Yorkers. New York State Police Trooper Patrick Quinlan, like every other officer and investigator, was pleased the technology worked before any harm could be dealt to Sanchez.
“The child was taken under circumstances that lead us to believe she may be in imminent danger of bodily harm and/or death,” Quinlan told CNN.
