Yema Thomas of Atlanta’s High Museum discusses celebration of Ghanaian culture

Why was it important for the High Museum to celebrate Ghanaian independence with educational programs and events?

Paa Joe is a Ghanaian artist whose exhibition opened at the High Museum last week. It was serendipitous that the upcoming HIGH Frequency Friday date [March 6] coincides with Ghanaian Independence Day. We thought it’d be a great opportunity to tap into African culture in Atlanta. We will have two DJs from Ghana, and we’ll have a dance instructor teaching Afrobeat lessons and also doing pop-up sessions. We think this programming offers museumgoers a great opportunity for a different distinctive educational experience.

What are the benefits of being a member of the High Museum?

Among the many benefits are free admission to public programs and the
museum.

Members also get preview access to view exhibitions early before
the public openings.

We offer member-exclusive events as well.

This month’s HIGH Frequency Friday event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 6. The event is free with museum admission and free for members.
