Cleveland’s baseball team changing name after 100 years

Cleveland reportedly was called the “Spiders” back in the 19th century when the franchise first came to fruition, however, that was very short-lived.

Cleveland Naps: This would be an ode to Nap Lajoie spent the heart of his legendary career with Cleveland’s American League team and was the AL’s first superstar.

Cleveland Dobys: This would be a symbolic gesture for the forgotten and tragically unheralded Hall of Famer Larry Doby. He was the American League’s first Black player and the second African American to play in the MLB after Jackie Robinson.

Cleveland Fellers: This could be to honor former star Bob Feller, who is considered the greatest pitcher in franchise history.

Cleveland Rockers: This would be an easy and obvious choice since Cleveland is home to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The television station also points out that the now-defunct WNBA franchise was called “Rockers” from 1997-2003.
