Master P debuts new romantic comedy and has a message about Black love

You’ve been talking about our community loving and supporting each other more in a comprehensive way. How do you think we can start doing this more?

We have to stop being so critical of one another. We see another person doing something and the first thing most people want to do is criticize them. Social media can be a good and a bad thing. We have to start celebrating and supporting one another. My goal has always been to highlight and uplift others. Romeo and I started a podcast that is highlighting small businesses because we want to be able to see others creating products and owning their creativity. This is how we show love to our community; it starts with support.

There were a lot of political messages from celebrities over the last six months, but you’ve been consistent with pushing your products. Was this intentional?

Absolutely. We aren’t waiting on a stimulus check. We’re looking for a hand up not a handout. I want our community to take this time to invest in themselves and not focus on waiting on a handout from the government.

“Never and Again” stars Jackie Long, Denise Boutee, Christian Keyes, Vanessa Simmons and premieres Thursday, Feb. 11 on BET+ .
