On Nov. 5, 2021, 10 people died at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston. Since then, there have been questions surrounding the cause of death of those individuals, and authorities now have the answers.
According to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the 10 victims died from compression asphyxia, which is when air is cut off from the body due to external pressure.
Out of the 10 victims, only one had effects of cocaine, methamphetamine, and ethanol as a contributory cause of death.
Scott recently did a sit-down interview with Charlamagne Tha God on Dec. 9, discussing the events that took place on the night of the festival.
“Anytime you can hear something like that, you want to stop the show, you want to make sure fans get the proper attention they need. And anytime I could see anything like that, I did,” Scott said during the interview. “I stopped it like a couple of times to just make sure everybody was okay. I really just go off of the fans’ energy as a collective, and I just didn’t hear that.”
Scott offered to pay for the funeral services of the victims, but several of the families rejected the offer.
The rapper is also looking to create a new initiative with leaders in government and music to help avoid incidents similar to the ones during the Astroworld Festival.
