Dr. Dre sparked a furious debate on social media when the music mogul posted a cryptic note suggesting that Eminem may want to enter the Verzuz battle.

On Sunday night, Jan. 23, 2022, Dr. Dre, 56, posted this message for his six million Instagram followers showing Slim Shady, 49, rapid rhyming and freestyling with the kind of cadence, wordplay and verve that made him an all-time great.

The Chronic mastermind then added in the caption, “Marshall Mathers vs Who???!!”

While Dre did not mention Verzuz specifically, hip-hop fans got the hint right away.

Verzuz founders Timbaland and Swizz Beatz indicated they are definitely supportive of Eminem stepping into the metaphorical ring. The question becomes: who’s going to want to verbally spar with Slim Shady?

While IG debated the question — with some suggesting that no one can match Eminem’s mic prowess, while others mentioning names like Lil Wayne — Swizz Beatz certainly has a person in mind.

Busta Rhymes.

“BUSTA !!!!!!!!!!! Let’s go🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,” Swizz exclaimed in the comments section.

Remember, back in September 2020 rapper Fat Joe said that most hip-hop heads are afraid to step on the stage with the 49-year-old Busta.

“Fat Joe is scared to do Verzuz with Busta Rhymes and so is everybody else,” Fat Joe said during an IG livestream. “You gotta understand, sometimes you ever notice — you seen [sic] boxers and they knock everybody out? People be scared to fight those boxers.”

Joe added, “Busta Rhymes is gonna out-rap, out-perform anybody who goes up in a Verzuz with him. That’s a fact. Yo, Busta Rhymes nobody wanna get in there with you, man. You might have to be an honorary — they gotta give you the check for no reason.”
