Illinois Rep. Mary Miller has come under fire after she thanked former President Donald Trump for the “victory for White life” during a rally for her reelection campaign on Saturday evening, June 25, 2022.
Trump is seen as the one key player who really brought about the Supreme Court decision to overturn the nearly 50-year-old Roe v. Wade decision during the “Save America” rally in West Central Illinois. He installed an arch-conservative on the bench.
Speaking to an overwhelmingly white audience, Miller said to Trump: “I want to thank you for the historic victory for White life in the Supreme Court yesterday,” she said while clapping to prompt cheers from the crowd, according to WGN News.
The comments incited a fierce backlash on social media, with Masika Kalysha of “Love & Hip Hop” saying; “Whew, it’s loud and proud! They are finally telling the truth! They don’t give a f— about us.” The former reality star continued, “They know we gonna kill each other, abortion or not. SMH, this is just an agenda to keep Whites from becoming the minority. They don’t want Becky having no abortion!”
A second person added, “Woooow, so it’s true … they really feel like they’re being outnumbered and not even hiding it.”
Miller’s spokesperson Isaiah Wartman downplayed Miller’s words, saying that the congresswoman simply misread prepared remarks.
“You can clearly see she is reading off a piece of paper, she meant to say ‘right to life,'” he said in a statement obtained by NBC News.
Miller later took to Twitter to defend herself by showing her family which includes seven children and multiple grandchildren, some of whom are multiracial. With a Black toddler sitting in her lap, Miller said:
“I will always defend the RIGHT TO LIFE!” she exclaimed.
