Why Mack Wilds says Black men need exercise; reveals Druski’s acting potential

The actor and recording artist has partnered with Michelob Ultra to encourage active lifestyles

Working out isn’t the most exciting activity, but actor and recording artist Tristan Mack Wilds has partnered with Michelob Ultra to host a public workout session in Brooklyn, New York, on Sept. 21.

Ahead of the event, Wilds spoke to rolling out about his starring role on “Swagger” and upcoming projects.

The first season of “Swagger” has wrapped up. What can people look forward to in the second season?

[The] first season was amazing. The response was really good. I think it’s crazy. It’s very similar to how the response of “The Wire” has been after the fact. I feel like more people are starting to catch on to “Swagger” after we finished the season, versus when we were [in] the season. Seeing how everybody is responding to it, how everybody’s connecting to it is amazing to me. My favorite part is everybody who watches it calls me and calls me an a—–, and I appreciate it.

What are you doing with Michelob ULTRA?

I’ve been on my fitness journey for about a year, year and a half. Just trying to figure out my own way when it comes to working out. Michelob Ultra is all about that. Not only are they about working out, but they’re about the balance of life and culture. They always ask the question, is it worth it? If you can, enjoy it. So, sitting with Anheuser-Busch and Michelob Ultra, we all put our heads together and put this whole Movement Live event together. It’s me, Tracy G, DJ Roc is playing the music, [dancing duo] Loud Luxury [is] doing the after-party. It’s really dope with rumba instructors, and we’re going to do a few workouts with you guys. We got it, but we’re going to put it to music. We’re going to have a good time, it’s going to be a party and it’s going to be a really good time.

Why is important for Black men to exercise?

I think the importance of working out is undeniable, right? We always understand how important working out is, but a lot of times working out felt like vitamins. It’s always felt like the vegetables of life. It’s something you have to do, but something you don’t necessarily want to do. So that’s why, [by] joining Michelob Ultra, we thought of how we could make this fun.

What are you working on right now?

We’re working on season two of “Swagger.” Shout-out to Apple TV, KD, everybody at Undisputed, Imagine, it’s amazing. I can’t even front, this is not even me being an actor gassing it up, just as a fan of the show … we also have Praise This coming out next year. Me, Chloe Bailey, Druski, Quavo, Will Packer, it’s going to be really good.

What potential do you see in Druski acting-wise?

Druski is a champ, man. Watching him work, being able to work with him, he knows it. His timing is impeccable. He knows improv and it’s all natural to him … if he decides to take it seriously, or he could take it as seriously as he wants, the world is his oyster.
