Deion Sanders has officially barred his Jackson State football players from leaving their hotel when they visit Houston this week in the wake of the shooting death of Migos member Takeoff.

Sanders acknowledged the tragedy that followed a dice game and argument on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2o22, and has asked his team to pray for the families.

In a poignant moment, Sanders told the squad he is disgusted that so many entertainers “that are influential to you are leaving us consistently … That eliminates all of y’all leaving that hotel because it ain’t happening until I give you further notice.”

The Pro Football Hall of Famer who dominated during his tenures with the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, told his players that they must evolve and stop affiliating with the same friends and women they grew up with.

“You’re not whoever you were a year ago, you’re not even who you’re going to be a year from now, which is a blessing,” Sanders said. “But you can’t continuously do the things you’ve always done and expect to get [different] results. There’s gonna have to be a change.”

Jackson State will go face off against Texas Southern (4-4 record) boasting an 8-0 record, including 5-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Tigers also lead the East Division and are ranked ninth in the Football Championship Subdivision.
