The week of Dec. 2 in new music was all about Metro Boomin. The super producer released his new album, Heroes & Villains, which dropped in the final month of a treacherous year for the star musician, to say the least.
On May 11, rap superstars Young Thug and Gunna were among the men arrested on RICO charges in the YSL case. Thug, who does one of Boomin’s producer drops, is featured on two songs on the album, while Gunna also has a feature on the album. Takeoff is featured on arguably the most powerful song, “Feel The Fiyaaah” featuring A$AP Rocky. The album opens with a gospel vibe welcomed by John Legend’s vocals. Morgan Freeman and Rocky narrate throughout the album. Future, 21 Savage, Don Toliver, Travis Scott, Young Nudy and The Weeknd also appear in the project. Boomin keeps his trademark dark, bass-heavy production on the album.
Latto released a new single and music video for “FTCU” featuring GloRilla. The acronym stands for “F— The Club Up,” and the energy of the song matches the title.
Afrobeats artist Mayorkun released his latest single, “Fire.”
AAP Deno released “Big Payment,” a single that oozes the anxious energy of a hustler looking for a come-up.
Babyface Ray released his album MOB. In addition to his appearance on Boomin’s album, A$AP Rocky released the single “Sh-ttin’ Me,” Cordae dropped “Feel It In The Air,” Akon released the EP TT Freak and Yungeen Ace released his new album Survival Of The Trenches.
