Kenneth Petty, the husband of rapper Nicki Minaj, has been ordered by a judge to settle the lawsuit with his rape victim.
Petty has been required to register as a sex offender in every state he lives in since being convicted as a teen of raping Jennifer Hough in New York. He served four years in prison for the violent crime.
Since then, however, Petty has worked hard to try to get a court to retry the case or throw it out because he claims he never had ample opportunity to defend himself against Hough’s claims.
Hough, in turn, believes that Petty and Minaj hatched a harassment scheme to get her to change her story and exonerate Petty, which she has steadfastly refused to do. She filed a lawsuit against the music power couple citing incessant intimidation tactics against her and her family members.
To settle the issue once and for all, the judge slapped Petty with a deadline by which the two parties have to find a solution via a mediator.
“The Parties are to select a mediator by Dec. 20, 2022, and complete mediation by March 6, 2023,” reads the court documents obtained by AllHipHop.com. “[They] may participate in the mediation remotely. [Both parties] shall file a joint status report two weeks after completing the mediation, but no later than March 20, 2023, whichever date is earlier.”
Minaj said there was an innocuous error as to why she failed to respond to Hough’s harassment lawsuit earlier as ordered.
“My failure to respond to the complaint was the product of an innocent mistake, and I ask the court to excuse the delay so that I can defend what I believe to be an entirely frivolous case,” she said in court documents, according to the publication.
