Former NBA superstar Amar’e Stoudemire was arrested and charged with battery for allegedly punching and slapping his daughter multiple times in the face.
The former Rookie of the Year of 2003 was apprehended following a domestic dispute where he allegedly became irate over the way his daughter was speaking with his mother, CBS Miami reports.
When Stoudemire reportedly confronted the unnamed daughter about her “attitude” with her grandmother, an argument ensued and allegedly degenerated into physical contact.
According to the police report filed by the daughter’s mother, Stoudemire allegedly punched his daughter on the right side of her face. And then when she continued to exhibit attitude, he allegedly slapped her on the left side of her face.
When she began “talking back” he allegedly then slapped her in the face and on the left side of her body. Stoudemire’s ex-wife, Alexis Welch, whom he divorced after six years of marriage, reportedly displayed photos of her crying daughter to police, replete with blood running down her face.
Stoudemire, who played for the Phoenix Suns for the balance of his career, is defending himself via Instagram where he told his 700K followers that he will be vindicated of the charges.
“Over the last 24 hours, an incident at my family home led to my being charged with assaulting my daughter. It is an allegation based on a report that does not square with the facts,” Stoudemire penned.
