Rapper Boosie, known for his controversial views, recently walked out of the musical film adaptation of The Color Purple, claiming it seemed like a “[rainbow emoji] love story.” He reportedly had his daughters with him during the incident.

The film, based on the poet and author Alice Walker’s 1982 novel, tackles various controversial topics, including racism and intimate partner violence. Walker, a bisexual woman, has been vocal about these issues. The novel’s bold narrative won it multiple awards, leading to a 1985 movie adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg featuring Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover.

Fast-forward to 2023, Winfrey co-produced a musical adaptation of The Color Purple, starring Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey and Ciara.

Boosie’s walkout has sparked debate, given his history of homophobic comments and the fact that his daughter, Poison Ivi, is openly lesbian.

In a post on X, Boosie explained his decision: “I had to walk out this Color Purple movie … because I had my little girls with me. It seemed like a [rainbow emoji] love story. Good acting but whoever wrote the script is pushing the narrative hard. As a parent, I will not let my little girl watch this film.”

The incident has reignited discussions about representation and inclusivity in entertainment, with fans and critics alike weighing in on Boosie’s actions.
