A Las Vegas man who was denied probation leaped over the courtroom bench and attacked the judge during his sentencing on Jan. 3.
Deobra Redden was in court for his sentencing after pleading guilty to attempted battery with substantial bodily harm.
In the viral video, Redden’s lawyer is heard asking Judge May Holthus to sentence him to probation.
“I appreciate that, but I think it’s time he gets a taste of something else,” Judge Holthus said. “I just can’t with that history.”

Shortly after, Redden is heard saying “f— that, b—-,” and leaps over a courtroom bench onto Judge Holthus as they both fall to the ground. Three men then come to restrain Redden; one of the men repeatedly punches him.
The court spokesperson said that Judge Holthus was injured and her condition was being monitored. The court marshal was also injured and taken to the hospital, where it’s believed that he’s in stable condition.
Redden spent time in prison in 2015 when he was sentenced to a minimum of 19 months for attempted theft, and in 2021 for domestic battery.
“We commend the heroic acts of her staff, law enforcement, and all others who subdued the defendant,” the Eighth Judicial District Court said. “The court remains committed to a safe and secure courthouse and courtrooms. We are reviewing all our protocols and will do whatever is necessary to protect the judiciary, the public and our employees.”
