There have been a lot of questions surrounding Halle Bailey’s pregnancy and why she never publicly acknowledged it.

Since giving birth last month, the 23-year-old actress and singer is finally ready to open up just a bit more. During a recent Snapchat Q&A reposted on Thevoice4dapp REACTS YouTube channel, Bailey spoke in-depth about her decision.

In thanking fans for continuing to support her, the Little Mermaid actress said that she “really, really appreciates people like you who are so kind and understanding, especially of me wanting to wait to share something this sacred and beautiful. I just wanted to make sure I had a beautiful, private healthy time in my journey.”

When one fan asked if having to constantly deal with paparazzi and press was difficult for her while pregnant, Bailey confessed the ordeal was just a “little bit” stressful.

“Honestly I stayed off of all social media,” she revealed. “I really tried to just keep myself sane and I know that there were a lot of people who would always comment and be like, ‘We know girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘OK, that’s great that you know, but I’m just going to chill.'”

Another questioned posed to Bailey was how she even found the time and energy to make public appearances and hit red carpets while pregnant.

“I think for me, I just realized … it was helpful for me to be able to still be working and have something to promote, like the beautiful film I was a part of,” she said in reference to her role as a young Nettie in The Color Purple.

“Things like that, it just helps my brain and to feel sane,” she continued. “Because there’s a lot of emotional vulnerability that you experience going through all of that.”

Bailey and her boyfriend, DDG, welcomed their son Halo into the world in December.
