Donald Glover has landed another large contract. The writer, actor, director, artist, comedian and DJ has been confirmed to join his “Community” castmates for a reunion via the silver screen soon. While the news of Glover agreeing to do the movie came out in April 2023, “Community” co-star Joel McHale revealed another detail while on the red carpet of the Emmys.

“Well, Donald’s agreed to do it, so that was pretty much our [hurdle],” McHale said. “We paid him $52 million.”

From the time Glover departed the show in 2013, he released three albums, debuted and closed his FX show “Atlanta,” and appeared in movies from classic franchises like Spider-Man, Lion King and Star Wars. He also inked an eight-figure deal with Amazon Prime to release Guava Island, “Swarm” and the upcoming “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” He’s won five Grammys, two Emmys, two NAACP Image Awards, a Golden Globe and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2017, he became the first Black man to win an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

With the movie, “Community” fans now fulfill the production’s goal of screening six seasons and a movie. While the TV show has a cult following, the NBC sitcom did take a backseat to other comedies on the network like “The Office” and “30 Rock.” In 2010, “The Office” was the No. 11 highest-rated show in America, “30 Rock” was the No. 36-rated show, and “Community” was the No. 60, according to Deadline. “Sunday Night Football,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Parenthood,” “The Apprentice,” “Heroes,” “Law and Order: SVU” and “The Marriage Ref” also all had higher-rated shows on NBC than “Community.”

Now, the network’s once-underdog is the one that will have its chance to shine on the big screen.
