The comedic clash between Donnell Rawlings and Corey Holcomb went viral because Rawlings was recorded interrupting Holcolmb’s show by screaming at him.
The confrontation began when Rawlings visited Holcomb’s comedy show at the Laugh Factory and heard some triggering words directed at Rawlings. Most significant was Holcomb stating that Rawlings’ comedy is “mild” and that he had to have performed a sexual favor on a man to get his movie roles.
After being cattle-prodded, Rawlings lept up and began spraying the room with obscenities and vulgarities like an out-of-control water hose right in the middle of Holcomb’s show.
Donnell Rawlings stunned fans by shouting at Corey Holcomb
“I catch you up in all these rooms in f—ing Brooklyn and you ain’t ever f—ed with [unintelligible] … You wanna talk about it?” Rawling screamed. “You saying I’m mild, you saying I ain’t come through the streets or the gutters is straight bulls—.”
Rawlings claims comedians are using controversy to market their shows instead of jokes
Later on, after he was able to decompress, a more contrite Rawlings said that he should not have roared at Holcomb during his show. But Rawlings was also offended by Holcomb’s insults hurled at his close friend Dave Chappelle, whom he starred with on the legendary “Chappelle’s Show” on Comedy Central.
Holcomb, whose comedy often pierces like a hypodermic needle, had ample time to unpack his feelings about Rawlings on his eponymous podcast in the aftermath of their infamous clash.
“To all you mild comedians out there, it doesn’t matter how long you go up, you are going to experience another level of comedy when I go up there,” Holcomb began as he slow-cooked Rawlings.
“I ain’t never been nothing but respectful to that boy,” Holcomb continued. “Because I’m scared of people that’s ugly.
“Ugly people never get a fair shot in life. Let’s just say that,” he added. “When you ugly, the world is cold.”
