Jennifer Hudson and boyfriend, Common play a married couple separated in the aftermath of a catastrophic event in futuristic New York City in the upcoming apocalyptic thriller, Breathe.

The heart-stopping trailer for the film finds Maya (Hudson) and her daughter, Zora (Quvenzhané Wallis) in a world where oxygen is now an expensive commodity as they seek shelter underground and only make sparing trips to the surface with the help of specialized oxygen suits.

While reeling with the presumed loss of husband, Darius (Common), Maya encounters a mysterious couple in the underground domicile that claims to know Darius’ whereabouts. Things go from bad to worse when Maya learns the true intentions of the couple and is forced to fight for lives of herself and her daughter.

Described as a “stark reminder” of our collective imprint on the planet and what it means for future generations, the thought-provoking film is directed by Stefon Bristol (See You Yesterday) and also stars Milla Jovovich, Raúl Castillo, and Sam Worthington.

Breathe lands in theaters on April 26.
