The Porter brothers continue to take hits as the youngest sibling, Coban Porter, was sentenced to six years in prison on April 19 for a deadly DUI crash.
Coban was arrested in January 2023 on investigation of a vehicular homicide in Denver’s University‘s neighborhood. After initially pleading not guilty in October 2023 to the DUI charges, he pleaded guilty in February 2024.
According to the probable cause statement, Porter was driving at an estimated speed of 50 mph when he ran a red light and killed 42-year-old Katharina Rothman. The passenger, 47-year-old Jason Blanch, was seriously injured. Lawsuits filed against Porter by Rothman and Blanch’s family claim Porter was drinking at a sports bar and was visibly intoxicated when he left.
The lawsuits claim Porter drove through a red light and failed to yield the right-of-way. When Porter’s blood was taken at a local hospital, he allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.20, which exceeded the legal limit of 0.08.
This is just more tragic news for the Porter family after their brother, Jontay Porter, received a lifetime ban from the league for violating their gaming rules.
A league investigation found that Porter violated the rules by disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, which led him to limit his participation in one or more games for betting purposes and betting on NBA games.
From January to March 2024, Porter placed 13 bets on NBA games using an associate’s online betting account. He bet $54,094 and won $21,965. Three of the bets were multi-game parlay bets that included a Raptors game where Porter bet that they would lose. All three of the bets lost.
Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. is the older brother of Coban and Jontay. He is looking to secure his second championship in a row when the NBA playoffs start on April 20.
