Cormani McClain, a 5-star recruit out of high school, is now looking for a new college program to call his.

After one season with the Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders, McClain recently entered the transfer portal. On April 20, he posted a video on his YouTube account and explained what he was looking for with his next team.

“No hard feelings,” McClain said. “Some people just have to take a step back from certain things sometimes.”

“I just feel like I don’t want to play for clicks. I actually want to be involved with a great-leading program that’s going to develop players,” McClain added as an apparent parting shot toward his former team.

At Colorado, each player has their social media handles on the back of their practice jerseys. The group has, like Sanders has had his entire college coaching career, at least two sets of camera crews: one for Thee Pregame Show’s YouTube channel, and another for Well Off Media, the YouTube page run by Deion Sanders Jr. The constant filming adds to the program’s marketing and the overall hype around the team.

Sanders was asked about McClain, who played sparingly as a freshman and finished the 2023 season with only 13 total tackles, including six solo tackles and two pass deflections.

“I want the best for him, man,” Sanders said during a press conference. “I want that kid to soar. I want him to man up. I want him to be the best possible athlete, human being, and person he can be. I want him to fulfill all those dreams his mother and he desire.”

Coming out of high school, McClain was the No. 1 cornerback in the nation and the No. 14 overall prospect for the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports. McClain originally committed to the University of Miami before flipping to Colorado about a month after Sanders was hired to lead the Buffaloes.
