For 24 years Taliah Waajid has celebrated the unique and undeniable beauty of Black women through her top-selling products and annual hair show. The former stylist from NY transitioned into a multi-million dollar brand known for nurturing, growing and protecting the regal crowns of people of color. Waajid believes healthy hair is just a minimum and challenges her customers, clients and attendees to cherish the natural hair whether it’s locked, curled, weaved up or even covered with a stylish wig. “Our goal is to take care of our natural hair regardless of the state it’s in. Black people have so many options, and we love to switch up our style, but healthy hair is good hair and that’s why the brand was created,” Waajid shares.
From mixing products in her home to provide moisture for her natural hair clients three decades ago, today Taliah Waajid is a household name. The products can be found in beauty supply stores across the country, not to mention national chains, Target, CVS, Publix, Krogers and many more. Waajid doesn’t spend much time rattiling off the brand’s major successes over the past two decades, but she is excited to share the two newest products lines titled, Apple and Aloe and Honey Locs. “I can’t wait for people to try the honey locs line. Back when I started, people weren’t embracing locking their hair the way they are today. This product line is great for locs of all stages and it’s specfically created to keep the hair and scalp healthy,” Waajid says.
Seeing people of color embrace their authentic beauty continues to motivate Waajid as she views the change as a full circle moment. “To see the movement of so many brothers and sisters embracing their natural hair unapologetically makes me so proud. There was a time not that long ago when we were made to feel like our natural hair was inappropriate to wear in different environments. Today, we have the Crown Act and so many other initiatives that celebrate our hair and encourage our children to do the same. I realize we were ahead of our time, but it feels good to see us get to this point,” Waajid says.
Atlanta, GA will host the 24th annual Flourish Natural Hair Show on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday April 28th at the Georgia International Convention Center, located at 2000 Convention Center Concourse, Atlanta, GA. Waajid says the goal is for families to come out and enjoy meeting celebrities, influencers and listening to panels on everything from health & wellness to personal development, relationships and even AI. Waajid’s products will be available along with hundreds of other products and vendors catering to celebrating the beauty that lies within Black Culture.
“There is truly something for the entire family,” Waajid states, “from our young innovators panel with child influencers like Madison Jaye and Cassidy Bridges to our Easily Influenced panel with Brittany Davis to the Goddess panel with Sole and Dr.Sarah Fontenot and to our men’s section with pool and basketball along with men’s panels, we have the entire family covered with information and entertainment.”
