Fans of Ashanti and Nelly, excited they rekindled their romance, fawned over the pair after the singer announced her pregnancy.
Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, 43, is pregnant with her first child with Cornell “Nelly” Haynes Jr., 49, whom she dated for 10 years from 2003 to about 2013. After the two broke up for another 10 years, they got back together in 2023.
Nelly has two other children from previous relationships: a 29-year-old daughter, Chanelle, and a 24-year-old son, Cornell Haynes III. He also adopted his nephew and niece, Shawn and Sydney Thomas, after his sister Jackie Donahue passed away from Leukemia in 2005.
The singer was ebullient with the news that she was expecting. She even reportedly told her mother and manager Tina Douglas that she would “need about nine months” to prepare for an upcoming show.
“We pregnant!” she tells the legendary St. Louis emcee over the phone while he’s recording in the studio.
Nelly simply gazed back into the camera to a quick spell. He then flashed his red carpet smile and he blurted out: “I already knew!”
“No you didn’t,” She playfully shot back.

The “Foolish” songstress told Essence last month that 2024 has been such a blessing to her
“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” she said. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
