In addition to Caitlin Clark’s reputation as a long-range shooter, sublime ball handler, and a passing savant, she possesses a skill that Stephen Curry and LeBron James do not.
Clark can spin the ball on her finger; Curry and James cannot — which comes as a shock to many longtime basketball fans.
“I can do a lot of things with a basketball. A lot of things,” said Golden State Warriors guard Curry, a four-time NBA champion, two-time league MVP and Finals MVP. “That is the one thing that I can not do.”
James, a four-time league MVP and four-time Finals MVP, clumsily tried to spin the ball on camera but couldn’t accomplish the feat either.
“It ain’t really my thing,” the NBA’s all-time leading scorer said.
“No, I cannot,” Philadelphia 76er’s center Joel Embiid said without even attempting the trick. “Probably the only guy on the team who can’t.”
“Uh, I can give you like a half a second maybe,” Tyrese Haliburton said while giving it a shot. “One one thousand, two one thousand,” he counted before losing control of the ball.
One person who can do it with proficiency is WNBA star Caitlin Clark, the rookie sensation who has taken the league by storm.
Kevin Durant makes fun of those who can’t spin the ball on their finger
Kevin Durant — one of the greatest all-around shooters of all time, added some good natured ribbing of some fellow Team USA players. Durant had fun with Indiana point guard Haliburton.
“The point guard don’t know how to do it?” Durant said.
“That’s sickening. I thought he had more coordination than that,” Durant commented about Embiid.
Curry called his lack of ability in that area “embarrassing” before giving it one last attempt. The spinning ball remained upright on his finger for a millisecond before tumbling off. Curry then slammed it to the floor with a laugh.
“Can’t do it,” he said. “I can’t do it.”
